The Coal Authority : Feb 2015 - Present

As a key member of the Coal Authority's Security Forum my responsibilities include:

  • Management of the organisational Information Risk Management and Information Assurance programme
  • CIAMM compliance
  • PCI DSS compliance
  • Collaborative creation of Business Continuity plans with business units
  • Guidance of technical Disaster Recovery
  • Draft, ratification, distribution and monitoring compliance of all relevant policies
  • Organisation and assessment of internal and external penetration testing
  • Day to day management of information assurance incidents

Within this role I provide guidance to internal information asset owners, acting as a central resource to the business to inform and ensure business practices are in line with relevant regulation and standards.

Key achievements

  • Successful achievement of Information Assurance Maturity Model improvement as assessed by CESG to a level above expectation set by the Coal Authority non-executive board and with the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy
  • Review and assessment of all key and secondary suppliers in line with UK government standards such as Cyber Essentials, ISO 27001 and the Data Protection Act
  • Implementation of elearning system to streamline and improve internal training

Web Content Administrator
The Coal Authority : Feb 2013 - Feb 2015

Brought in to provide web expertise this role involved both technical skills and stakeholder management of internal and external web presences.

Key achievements

  • Migration of the existing Coal Authority website to the GOV.UK platform
  • Installation and configuration of intranet, which has become primary method of disseminating news throughout the organisation
  • Training staff in the use of plain english, writing for the web and transferring skills to applications development team within ICT department

Web solution designer : RK Web Design
Apr 2003 - Present

Freelance HTML/CSS/javascript and website support service, originally started part time in 2003. Providing web design and development services for small and medium sized businesses, from basic professional profile sites to full e-commerce solutions.

Key achievements

  • Client base turnover exceeds £600k per annum
  • Serving more than twelve thousand visitors per day
  • Customised client site CMS including integration with HSBC and BarclayCard CPI gateways

Responsible for co-ordinating all product related updates of the BL website, ensuring that all products were released on schedule, marketed via newsletter and social media.
